Affiliation to the juristic schools (madhhabs) of the Imams, while differing from them in matters of creed, brings about the anger of the great scholars of those madhhabs upon the one who does so.
When it reached Abū Muṣʿab that a man outwardly adopted the school of Imām Mālik, yet opposed him in his belief concerning the Qur’an, he said:
“May Allah curse him! He claims to follow our madhhab while he is free from it!”
This was mentioned to Imām Aḥmad, and it pleased him and made him happy.
