Q: Is it permissible to make du’ah for the individual who does not perform the obligatory duties of Islam?
A: The Supplication for the Individual who is a Faasiq (Sinner) for guidance, and that Allah (ﷻ) guides him to be upright and to rectify his affairs, this action is legislated, preferred and recommended. As far as the supplication for him that may aid his sins and falsehood; this is not permissible. As for the supplication for him after death, (that Allah forgive him and have mercy upon him), this is permissible; rather, this is legislated and preferred so that perhaps Allah (ﷻ) will answer the supplication. In the Hadeeth the Prophet (ﷺ) said,
"Whenever a Muslim man dies and forty men pray over his Janaazah -none of them joining anything with Allah in worship- Allah grants them intercession for him."
