The Prophet (ﷺ) Knew Different Languages?
Benefits From Sheikh Muhammad Ibn Alee al-Ethiopiee 4/7/16
Sheikh Muhammad Ibn Alee al-Ethiopiee (rahimahullah) Said,
“Some the scholars say that Prophet (ﷺ) knew all of the languages (spoken on Earth) since he (ﷺ) was sent to every nation using the verse as evidence:
وَمَا أَرْسَلْنَا مِن رَّسُولٍ إِلَّا بِلِسَانِ قَوْمِهِ لِيُبَيِّنَ لَهُمْ فَيُضِلُّ اللَّهُ مَن يَشَاءُ وَيَهْدِي مَن يَشَاءُ وَهُوَ الْعَزِيزُ الْحَكِيمُ
“And We sent not a Messenger except with the language of his people, in order that he might make (the Message) clear for them. Then Allah misleads whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And He is the All-Mighty, the All-Wise.” (Ibraheem: 4)
But the Sheikh said that the strongest and more accurate understanding is that there would come Muslims who are non Arabs who would learn Arabic and then translate that which the Prophet (ﷺ) came with so it is as if the Prophet (ﷺ) is speaking to them in their language.”
