(Worksheet) A Brief Biography Of Ibn Aajurroom (rahimahullah)
The active Imam, The sea of Islamic sciences, Aboo ‘Abdillah Muhammad bin Muhammad bin Daawud as-Sanhaajee better known as Ibn Aajurroom (rahimahullah), born in Fez (Morocco) in the year 672 A.H. (1273 C.E.) and dying in the year 723 A.H. (1323 C.E.). The Arabic Grammarian known for his treatise “al-Aajurroomiyyah” which has been explained by many of the People of Knowledge. Ibn Aajurroom also authored “Faraaid-ul-Ma’aanee fee Sharhi Hirzil-Amaatee” reaching two volumes. The two volumes that were written by his own hand are stored away in the library of ar-Rabaat. He was known for his explanation of “ash-Shaatibiyyah,” and he has many other authored works in addition to various poems written in the meter of Rajaz.
Ibnul-‘Imaad al-Hanbalee (rahimahullah) said of him in “Shadhraat-udh-Dhahab,”
“Aboo ‘Abdillah Muhammad bin Muhammad bin Daawud as-Sanhaajee, the Grammarian known as Ibn Aajurroom pronounced with a Fathah on the elongated Hamzah, a Dhammah on the Jeem and a Shaddah on the Raa. The meaning of his name (Ibn Aajurroom) in the language of the Berbers means; the poor sufee [1]. He is the author of the well known introductory treatise on Arabic grammar (well-known for short as) al-Aajurroomiyyah.”
