(Worksheet) Not Submitting To The Truth When It Opposes The Person Who One Follows
Source: Selected benefit from the explanation of Iqtidā as-Sirāt al-Mustaqīm Mukhālafah Ashābil-Jahīm from the works of The Noble Scholar Shaykh Uthaymīn رحمه الله pg. 11
Translated by Abu Yusuf Khaleefah
Allāh تعالى stated (what means),
“When it is said to them believe in that which Allāh revealed, they say: We believe in which has been revealed upon us and they disbelieve in that which is after it although it is the truth confirming that which is with them.” [al-Baqarah:91]
This is after He said (what means),
“Although aforetime they had invoked Allāh (for the coming of Muhammad (ﷺ) in order to gain victory over those who disbelieved.” [al-Baqarah:89]
He described the Jews that when the eloquent Prophet (who spoke with the truth) came to them from other than the group they desired, they didn't submit to him (i.e., the truth that he came with). Indeed they do not accept the truth except from the group that they are ascribed to, along with not following that which their creed mandates them (to do). Many of those who are ascribed to a specific group regarding knowledge or religion from the Jurists and the Mutasowwifah (Sūfis) have been afflicted with this. They do not accept from the religion except that which their group has come with, although the Dīn of Islām obligates the following of the truth unrestrictedly; in respect to narration and understanding without specifying a person or a group other than the Messenger (who the truth has come from)."
