(Worksheet) Tawassul

Tawassul: Seeking A Nearness To Allah

The Tawassul that is from shirk is the Tawassul of the polytheist by their act of taking intermediaries to bequest Allah on their behalf and attempting to draw close to Allah by worshipping them.  Allah says,

وَالَّذِينَ اتَّخَذُوا مِن دُونِهِ أَوْلِيَاء مَا نَعْبُدُهُمْ إِلَّا لِيُقَرِّبُونَا إِلَى الله زُلْفَى

“And those who take Auliya' (protectors and helpers) besides Him (Allah) (say): “We worship them only that they may bring us near to Allah.” (Az Zumar: 3)

The legislative Tawassul is the following:

1- Tawassul by the Names and Attributes of Allah.

وَلِله الأَسْمَاء الْحُسْنَى فَادْعُوهُ بِهَا

“And (all) the Most Beautiful Names belong to Allah, so call on Him by them.” (Al A’raaf: 180)
